Life is like a horse passing by in a blink of an eye. Each of us is pursuing what we consider to be worthwhile personally, and we long for inner satisfaction and affirmation from others on the path we are pursuing. Like other people, I am also busy on this road. Sometimes I doubt whether everything I am pursuing is worthwhile. Sometimes my answer is yes, and sometimes my answer is no. My consciousness often wanders between these two ends.
Until I made up my mind to believe in the Lord, such doubts disappeared. What a great relief! Jesus answered: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7) Now I understand that my life is meaningful only if I believe in the Lord Jesus. Only by believing in him will my sins be forgiven and my life be redeemed.
Looking back on my past, I feel I am a big sinner. The sins I commit include my thoughts, my words, and my actions. Nevertheless, God is so forgiving that all I need to do is to repent. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) From my early childhood to present, I have been so close to death twice. When I was in the elementary school, I liked to swim in a reservoir in my village every summer. One day when I was swimming, I somehow almost drowned. At the moment when my body sank into the water, a hand suddenly caught me and dragged me out of the water. The strange thing was that I can’t remember who saved me. When I was in the junior high school, I got a hemorrhagic fever. At the beginning, I thought it was just a cold, so I did not pay attention to it. Later, I felt a splitting headache. Fortunately, my father noticed the seriousness of the disease and asked our neighbors for help. They sent me to the hospital in the county in the middle of the night. There was no emergency medical service at that time. After examination, the doctor told my father that it was almost the late stage of hemorrhagic fever. Thanks to that experienced doctor, I was fully recovered finally. Before I believed in the Lord, I always thought that I was lucky every time. Now I changed my mind. It was God who saved me. He saved me through the hands of my childhood playmates, my father, my neighbors, and my doctor. Amen!
In fact, over the years, there were quite a few moments when I wanted to be baptized, but it somehow never happened. It was my wife who encouraged me. She decided to believe in the Lord right after her first time to go to the Sunday school, which inspired me greatly. I also want to follow in her footsteps and embark on the right path of believing in the Lord.
Last but not least, I would like to thank my family, good friend Ted Fyckes who started to teach me the Bible in Regina 13 years ago, Pastor Dong Xiaoling, and all other friends in the ERBC. Because of you, I have more joy and peace in following the path of Jesus Christ.
Lord, I would like to sing loudly for you:
The most beautiful blessing in this life is to know the Lord Jesus
The most beautiful blessing in this life is to trust in the Lord Jesus
He will walk with me in the mountains and the valleys
I know that this is the most beautiful blessing
